A presentation on the use of guardian ad litem, both for children (in cases involving custody and visitation, termination of parental rights, abuse and neglect, foster care, protective orders) and also for those who are under a disability, incapacitated or incompetent. The CLE will focus on the duties of such guardians and the roles they play in the affairs of their wards, the extent of and limitations on what they should do in those roles, the potentials for conflicts of interest and some of the other thorny situations which arise when serving as guardian ad litem.
