This 1.5-hour CLE session will provide an
overview of the unique circumstances that lead to challenges with unstable real
property ownership in vulnerable populations, including historical context and
cultural considerations. The program will also provide high-level overview of
the legal solutions to these issues with a focus on heirs property and the new
Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act in Virginia. Speakers will explain the
work the Black Family Land Trust (BFLT) is doing to assist landowners with the
protection and preservation of their land asset, including ways attorneys can
work in collaboration with the BFLT to resolve heir’s property and other legal
barriers.
